Man Dies in Yosemite National Park on Christmas Day

YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK, CA. (KMJ) – A man visiting Yosemite National Park died on Christmas Day, a National Park Service official says.

It happened in the Silver Apron area, which is a body of water between Vernal and Nevada Falls.

According to Acting Chief of Public and Congressional Affairs Andrew Muñoz, first responders got a 911 call regarding a man with a head injury above Nevada Fall.

Muñoz says rangers got to the area in under an hour and the man was removed from the water.

Medical attention was given to the man, but he died from his injuries, Muñoz says.

No other details were given and the incident remains under investigation, which is taking longer than usual due to the government shutdown, Muñoz says.

A teen visiting Yosemite National Park in September also died in the Nevada Falls area just a few months before.

According to the Times of Israel, the body of 18-year-old Tomer Frankfurter, a Jerusalem resident, was found near Nevada Fall Sept. 5.

Israel’s Channel 10 news reports Frankfurter climbed a cliff near the Nevada Fall, stood on an unstable rock and while trying to take a selfie, and fell 250 meters (820 feet).

Frankfurter went to Yosemite National Park for a few days before the army, Channel 10 News reports.
