Tulare PD Announces Memorial Service For Fallen K9 Officer Bane

 

 

TULARE, CA (KMJ) – The Tulare Police Department announces the memorial service for fallen K9 Officer Bane.

On December 9th, K9 “Bane” was killed in the line of duty.

On January 9th, Tulare PD will be giving Bane a memorial service at the International Agri-Center at 4500 S. Laspina Blvd. in Tulare CA.

The memorial will start at 10 AM and will be open to the public.

 

 

Bane was a year and half Belgium Malinois, trained as a bomb detection dog, he and his former handler were set to attend their bomb training in the future, when the dog died in the line of duty, after a traffic stop ended with an officer involved shooting.

The incident began around 7:00pm on Sunday, Dec. 9 by Cherry and Pleasant Streets.

Tulare Police officers were following a driver who led them on a chase into Tulare County.

It ended when the vehicle came to a stop by Tulare Avenue and Palm Street.

“The officer deployed Bane, as he did shots were fired by the suspect from inside the vehicle,” said Interim Police Chief, Captain Matt Machado. “Bane and his handler were both struck by rounds. The additional officers on scene returned fire.”

Bane’s officer handler is a 6-year veteran, and had completed at 5-week intensive training where the two had bonded.

Interim Tulare Police Chief, Captain Matt Machado spoke about the dog’s death at the time of the shooting, “it was an intense bond and I believe the two had all the potential in the world to do great things.”
