FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – Fire officials reveal new details on what may have sparked the Ferguson Fire.
The nearly 97,000 acre Mariposa County Blaze burned for between this past July and August.
U.S. Forest Service Officials investigating the cause say overheated pieces of catalytic converter are responsible for fire, but because the pieces relatively large, evidence now points to some type of truck or large vehicle.
The person responsible could be charged with some or all of the Ferguson Fire $116 million suppression costs.
The battle against the fire cost two firefighters their lives, injured another 19 and destroyed 10 structures.
On July 29, 2018, Brian Hughes, 33, Captain of the Arrowhead Interagency Hotshots lost his life battling the Ferguson Fire on the Sierra National Forest.
36 year-old Cal Fire firefighter Braden Varney was a Heavy Fire Equipment Operator (HFEO), who died on July 14, 2018.
Fire investigators are asking anyone with information to come forward.
