2 Men Injured At 2 Residential Fires In Fresno

FRESNO, CA. (KMJ) — Two men were injured and Fresno firefighters were kept busy in the wee hours of Thursday morning.

“We had two working residential fires, two people were transported to the hospital,” said Captain Robert Castillo, the Public Information Officer for Fresno Fire Department.

Captain Castillo said both fires were well-involved, and required multiple fire units.

The first blaze started around 1:30a.m. Thursday morning in the detached garage of a home at Huntington Blvd. and 9th Street, in East Central Fresno.

A man inside the garage suffered minor injuries.

As the fire crews were still working to put out that fire, the call came in on a second fire just after 2:30a.m.

That blaze was burning at an abandoned home in Central Fresno on Grant Avenue and Fresno Street (above), and turned into a two-alarm fire with someone possibly in the property.

Captain Castillo said the building had been vacant and had been boarded up for a while.

“Fresno PD was on scene, they identified that someone was possibly still inside,” said Captain Castillo. “The patient was inside the basement area, the fire limited his ability to get out – he was able to make his way to the sub floors so when units got on scene they immediately went into rescue mode.”

That man suffered minor smoke inhalation.

“The building is a total loss, it makes it extremely difficult for investigators to conduct an investigation,” said Captain Castillo, who added that the case is now closed.
