Brown Reverses Course, Orders Audit of DMV

FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — The California DMV is set to be audited, amid outrage over wait times, antiquated technology, and improper voter registration.

Gov. Jerry Brown is directing his administration to audit the department, after undermining an August request by Fresno Assemblyman Jim Patterson, for an audit by the state’s independent Bureau of State Audits.

Patterson tells KMJ News, “An audit by the finance people that is a performance-based audit, it’s not an audit by the state auditor, but I think it’s good enough. I hope it’s good enough.”

The DMV has claimed that an audit would be a “strain” on resources.
