FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – A motorcyclist was killed early Wednesday in a crash in Merced County.
The California Highway Patrol says the Merced Communication Center got a call at 4:39 a.m. of a grass fire west of Los Banos, on the shoulder of northbound I-5, north of Highway 152.
CHP officers responded to the scene and determined the fire was started by by a traffic collision involving a motorcycle.
They say the rider was on a Kawasaki motorcycle on the I-5 going north, drifted off the road, hit a dirt embankment and was thrown from the cycle.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
CHP says the rider was not able to be identified at the scene.
The collision remains under investigation.
