Hockey Is Coming Back To Downtown Fresno At Selland Arena

FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – The City of Fresno and the Fresno Monsters have come to an agreement announcing that hockey is coming to Downtown Fresno’s Selland Arena.

Fresno Mayor Lee Brand calls it one more positive thing for the downtown area, speaking during a press conference Tuesday at the Selland Arena.

“Glad we worked out a deal that proves successful and allows fans to enjoy hockey and people to come downtown,” said Mayor Brand.

While the City of Fresno will pick of the tab for some costs such as the ice, the Monsters will look to sponsors to pay for the brunt of the expenses.

Fresno Monsters owner Jeff Blair says beside providing hockey for the large number of fans, the games will also help raise money for local organizations.

Blair says they’ll hold theme nights such as AG Night and Rodeo Night, “ah, Raiders Blackout Night, Kiss Country Night, I mean we have a whole litany of them ready to go,” said Blair.

KMJ’s sister station 93.7 Kiss Country is one of the sponsors.

“We’re having 21 games series over the course of 7 weekends,” said Blair. “We’ll start the first or second week of October to the end of January.”
