The U.S. Senate is expected to vote this week to go to conference with the House to come up with a single farm bill, hopefully before the current one expires.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell plans a vote to conference the farm bill with the House soon after the Senate votes on a key nomination.
The House acted last week, including naming conferees which include members from the Central Valley, Jim Costa and Jeff Denham.
Senate leaders would name farm bill negotiators soon after the vote, with a formal conference expected in September, since the House leaves for its August break this Thursday.
