FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – California gubernatorial candidates are stumping this week in the Central Valley.
Speaking of what he calls the state’s “unaffordability crises,” Republican John Cox held a press conference Wednesday at the Friant-Kern Canal in Sanger, talking water and housing. “Visiting one of the most important sources of water conveyance in the Valley.”
Speaking beforehand on the Ray Appleton show, Cox said he’s talking with builders about housing, and the regulations from the state of California that make it costly and difficult to build.
“You know, the litigation that is increasing the cost of housing that so that people can’t afford to live, said Cox. “The forgotten Californians that you and I have talked about.”
Cox was also talking about AG and water.
“Water storage and fixing the Friant-Kern Canal so that we make sure that we get San Joaquin River water down here to recharge our overdraft and our ground water table. You know, water is the essence of life.”
Cox made his appearance the day after Democrat Gavin Newsom visited the Valley.

Lieutenant Governor Newsom, in the race for California governor, toured the Fresno Electrical Training Center, sharing his ideas to create opportunities for California workers, and pathways to jobs through apprenticeships.
While Cox pushes repeal of the gas tax, Newsom cautions against it saying it would hamper current road improvement projects already underway across the state.

Newsome also reiterated his support for the state’s bullet train.
“We can get phase one done, that’s valley to valley, and I think that’s very significant for the Central Valley as well as the Silicon Valley and the Bay Area, said Newsom. “The deeper question is how to get it over the Tehachapi Mountains and San Gabriel Mountains and how do we identify financing for that.”
Voters will decide – either Cox or Newsom in November’s election.
