FRESNO CA (KMJ) – The California Supreme Court blocks a measure headed to the November ballot that would divide the state into three.
The “Cal 3” initiative was a ballot measure driven by venture capitalist Tim Draper.
He tried and failed in the past to place an effort to break up California on the ballot, including a bid in 2016 to create six separate states.
Proponents argue that because of its economic and geographic diversity and a population approaching 40 million people, California has become “ungovernable.”
The campaign had received enough signatures to get on the November ballot, but the state’s Supreme Court said “significant questions have been raised regarding the proposition’s validity.”
The court would decide later whether the plan could be placed before voters in a future election.
