FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — The Golden State could mandate that most new homes include solar panels, beginning in 2020.
The California Energy Commission is set to vote May 9 on the standard.
It would apply to all homes, condominiums, and apartments up to 3 stories high.
Structures with roofs too small to accommodate panels, or those with unusual shade, will be given exemptions or alternatives.
According to California Building Industry Association, only 15 to 20 percent of newly constructed California homes currently include solar.
