FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – Election Day is coming up on June 5 and Precinct Officers are needed to help out at polling places throughout Fresno County.
Fresno County Clerk/Registrar of Voters, Brandi Orth, says the positions are paid and serve a vital role in conducting successful elections.
“Precinct Officers are the heart and soul of an election,” said Brandi Orth, Fresno County Clerk. “We still have several openings for dedicated individuals to help at the polls and ensure a positive and efficient Election Day experience for the voters of Fresno County.”
Precinct Officers manage the operation of polling places during Election Day performing duties such as setting up, preparing, opening and closing the polling place location; locating voter names on precinct rosters; issuing/receiving official ballots to/from voters; assisting voters in all phases of the voting process as necessary; and performing all required duties as assigned by the Precinct Inspector or the Registrar of Voters.
Qualifications for Precinct Officers include:
• Must be 18 years old and a registered voter in the State of California or a Lawful Permanent Resident living in California (AB817)
• Must read, write and speak fluent English
• Must attend a 2 ½ hour mandatory training for each election
• Have transportation to and from the polling location on Election Day
• Must be able to work all day on Election Day from 6:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
• Must have a telephone
• Must be able to lift 10-25 lbs.
Fresno County has a significant need for bilingual Precinct Officers fluent in one of the following languages: Spanish, Punjabi, Chinese, Khmer, Korean, Tagalog, Hmong, and Vietnamese.
