FRESNO, CA (KMJ) The 72-year-old man suspected of being the “Golden State Killer” appeared in court for the first time on Friday.
Joseph DeAngelo was on suicide watch before his arraignment in Sacramento County Court on two counts of murder.
The two Katie and Brian Maggiorre, who were originally from Fresno, were walking their dog by their Rancho Cordova home when they were shot to death, allegedly by DeAngelo.
The former Exeter police officer is suspected of at least ten more murders and upwards of 50 rapes from 1976 to 1986.
Visalia Police said on Thursday that DeAngelo is now a suspect in a 13th killing and about 100 burglaries that occurred while he was a police officer in the neighboring farm town of Exeter from 1973 to 1976.
Investigators tracked down DeAngelo using a genealogy website that contained genetic information from a relative.
