FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – The March of Dimes is saving babies — with your help.
On a life-saving mission – the March of Dimes conducts research and works in the community doing advocacy for babies and moms.
Executive Director Nancy Conway says it’s all to help to prevent infant mortality, “One in 10 babies is born prematurely. Premature birth is the #1 killer of babies under the age of one. So, that’s just not ok, we just have to fix that, and unfortunately the San Joaquin Valley is higher,” says Executive Director Nancy Conway.
Conway says unfortunately the numbers show the Central Valley is just like a third world country when it comes to infant mortality.
Fundraising is paramount to allow the non-profit to continue and expand its efforts, and the Fresno chapter has been holding fundraising events.
On April 7th, thousand attended the “March for Babies” Walk at Fresno’s Woodward Park to raise money for the cause.
KMJ is teaming up with Fresno Firefighters for the “Bucks for Babies” campaign.
On Tuesday, April 10th, starting early in the morning, you can donate to the March of Dimes in KMJ’S parking lot on the corner of Palm and Shaw.
