FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – Gubernatorial Candidate John Cox visits Fresno while on the campaign trail.
The Fresno County Republican Party has endorsed John Cox as one gubernatorial candidate that will work with Jeff Sessions and the Trump Administration.
Speaking in a press conference held Tuesday at the Robert E. Coyle Federal Courthouse, Cox says he supports the Second Amendment, and wants to repeal the gas tax, that he’s pro business and will defend prop 13 to limit property tax.
“The message for all of California but in particular the Central Valley is that we need to get this state affordable,” said Cox.
Cox says the most important role of government is to provide for the security and safety of people.
The Republican candidate says he supports Orange County, the cities of Escondido and Los Alamitos as they contest Sanctuary State policies.
“Gavin Newsom and Jerry Brown’s values are not my values… they are citing with the criminals, I’m citing with the people who are law abiding,” said Cox.
When asked by reporters about immigration, as farmers are losing workers who are fearing deportation, Cox says he supports legal immigration, “I’ve called for e-verify and a guest worker program.”
Another hot issue for Central Valley farmers is water, and Cox says he’s all for building and expanding reservoirs for storage, he supports Temperance Flat, building the Sites in Northern California and the expansion of Shasta.
Cox is up against a handful of Democrats running for the office; current Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom, Delane Easton and Antonio Villaraigosa, and fellow Republican Travis Allen.
Two women who said they were Allen’s supporters were heckling Cox during the press conference.
