Scenes of ‘March for Our Lives’ at Fresno High

FRESNO, CA (KMJ)  Speaker after young speaker spoke passionately Saturday afternoon about the need for stricter gun control in order to prevent the next Parkland.  Or Columbine, or Sandy Hook, or Pulse, or San Bernardino, or Aurora, or Las Vegas.  All of the mass shootings were mentioned by several high school students who took the microphone at the local ‘March for Our Lives’ in front of Fresno High School.

Hundreds of marches were held across the US, the largest of which took place in Washington DC. Organizers estimate that crowd to be around 800,000, which, if accurate, would be among the largest protests in American history.

Fresno’s rally drew between 1,000-2,000, on campus.  The speeches were followed by a march around the block in the Tower District.

While many speakers said the rally was not a partisan issue, a few did take jabs at Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA).  Andrew Janz, a democratic challenger to Nunes, was among the speakers.

Voter registration booths were set up, but it’s unclear how many registered.

Among the common themes of the energized but peaceful afternoon were raising the minimum age to buy guns to 21, and banning ‘bump stocks’ and some semi-automatic rifles like the AR-15.
