Explosion Sends 1 to Hospital, Clovis Police Suspect Drug Activity

CLOVIS, Calif. (KMJ) — One person is injured after an explosion inside a car in a Clovis shoppoing center.

Clovis police says they received calls around 8:45 Friday morning of a car fire in the shopping center at Willow and Nees.

The Clovis Police Bomb Squad deployed to inspect the car.

Neighbors says they heard the explosion.

“Well, I was just sitting on my porch and I heard an extremely loud ‘boom’ and I thought originally someone might have just run into a propane tank,” said witness Tony Mendoz, who lives across the street.

Mendoza says he saw the car’s windshield fly about 20 feet in the air.

The Clovis Police say one man was sent to CRMC with second degree burns on his face.

Clovis Police Corporal Josh Richards said the explosion was caused by narcotics activity and not a man-made bomb.
