Crime Dropping Overall In Fresno

FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – Crime is dropping overall in Fresno.

The Fresno Police crime watch trends for March 2018 show crime is dropping significantly despite four shootings that took last week in the city during a 16 hour period.

It was “gang retaliation” according to Fresno’s Police Chief Jerry Dyer, who says despite that rash of violence, crime is actually down in Fresno by the most he’s seen in his 39 years in law enforcement.

“We implemented strategies in the middle part of last year to address the homeless killing, to address domestic violence-related homicide, and to address gang-related murders in our city, and shootings, and we are having significant reductions as a result of those strategies and the numbe of officers we have out in the field.” Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer.

All the crime stats dropping; violent crime is down 20%, there were 44 fewer shootings year-to-date.

Property crime is down 19%, translating to more than 700 fewer victims of property crime.

Burglaries are down 35%, translating to 277 fewer homes or businesses broken into this year compared to last.

Auto theft down is 33% with 203 fewer vehicles stolen.

Chief Dyer says community involvement is paying off, and in turn, Fresno police are reaching out with events and activities to connect with young people in the city.
