“Right to Repair Act” Introduced in Calif. Assembly

FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — A bill introduced in the California Assembly would require that manufacturers of electronic devices make repair parts and information, available to product owners and third-party shops.

California joins 17 others in considering such legislation.

However, companies like Apple and Microsoft are staunchly opposed.

They argue that allowing users to fix their own devices poses a security risk.

A similar effort in New York failed.
