Student Threatened To Shoot Up School To “Look Cool,” Say Fresno Police

FRESNO (KMJ) — A 13 year old student has been arrested for allegedly making criminal threats, following an incident on the bus home.

Fresno Police said the unidentified teenager was riding the bus home from Edison Computech Thursday afternoon when he was overheard talking about shooting up the school.

“The bus driver stopped, overheard the comments, and asked the students who made the threat,” explained Lieutenant Mark Hudson.

“A 13 year old male student admitted to the driver that he was the one that said it. The driver then immediately took the student’s back pack for safety and notified police.”

Officers arrived, searched the student and the bag, and questioned him.

“[He] admitted to making that statement but said that he was just trying to be funny and look cool in front of his friends.”

The teenager was taken home where he lived with his grandmother. Officers report that the grandmother admitted the threats were not new, and that she had told him before not to say things like that.

The suspect was later booked into the Fresno County Juvenile Justice Center.

“If they’re old enough to make these threats through social media or other means, they’re old enough to be arrested,” added Lieutenant Hudson.
