9 Year-Old Boy Killed In What Madera’s Police Chief Calls A “Senseless Shooting”

FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – A 9 year-old boy is killed in what Madera’s Police Chief calls a “senseless shooting.”

His father and brother both had gang ties, but it was 9 year old Leonardo Morales who shot and killed Sunday night, struck by bullets as he was riding in the car with his father.

Madera Police Chief Steve Frazier says it was around 7:30p.m., when the two were driving on Tozer Avenue approaching Olive.

“An unknown vehicle pulled up alongside the passenger side of our victim’s vehicle, fired numerous rounds striking the victim – the 9 year old victim – several times,” says Madera Police Chief Steve Frazier.

Sunday was a visitation day for Leonardo, whose parents were separated. He was on his way back to his mom”s house when he was shot.

His father was treated for superficial wounds at CRMC.

Police Chief Frazier says they are increasing patrol units to bring the shooter to justice.

“We at the Madera Police Department have reassured her and her family, and our community, that we will do everything in our power to bring closure to this case,” says Madera Police Chief Steve Frazier.

Madera police are asking that anyone with information call them or Crimestoppers at 498-STOP.
