FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – 18 year-old Obdulia Sanchez was behind the wheel last July, when she crashed and rolled over into a field near Henry Miller Road and Highway 165.
She was filming a live Instagram video on her cell phone the entire time. The video went viral.
The crash killed her younger sister, 14-year old Jacqueline Sanchez, and injured her sister’s friend, 15-year-old Manuela Ceja, both were not wearing their seat belts at the time.
Sanchez was facing charges of gross vehicular manslaughter, DUI and child endangerment.
Her initial plea was “not guilty,” but in January her Defense attorney Ramnik Samrao changed that plea to “no contest.”
Sanchez was sentenced on Thursday, February 8th in the Merced County Courtroom.
She’ll spend the next 6 years and 4 months in prison for her crimes.
