FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – The California Transportation Commission voted Thursday in Sacramento to continue delivering new gas tax revenue from SB 1 the Road Repair and Accountability Act — directly to local communities.
Building on action from its December meeting, the Commission adopted the final list of cities eligible to receive Local Streets and Roads Program funding for this fiscal year, bringing the total count to 479 cities and 58 counties throughout California.
SB 1 dedicates approximately $1.5 billion per year for road maintenance, rehabilitation, and critical safety projects in local communities.
To be eligible for funding Cities and counties must submit a list of projects for approval to the commission, then, commissioners will monitor the projects to be sure they are completed as promised.
With the final adoption made Thursday, the full report of eligible cities will be sent to the State Controller to distribute revenue.
Another milestone, the Commission adopting the 2018 Formulaic Program of Projects for the Local Partnership Program that dedicates $200 million a year to reward communities that have previously approved fees or taxes dedicated to transportation improvements.
The Commission approved 57 projects across California for a total of $173.4 million in SB 1 funding for Fiscal Years 2017-18 and 2018-19. The remaining $26 million remains available to eligible agencies who propose projects before June 2019.
