FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – A large stash of guns is revealed Monday at Fresno Police Headquarters.
The table had weapons confiscated just in this month of January. Some of the firepower seized were high powered AK-47 & AR-15 rifles, sawed off shotguns, bolt action rifles, semi automatic guns, even old style Derringer guns, and a Mac-10, too.
Standing behind the 95+ guns, was the team that is taking them off the streets including Fresno PD under the leadership of Chief Jerry Dyer, the Fresno District Attorney’s Office under DA Lisa Smittcamp, members of the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, Probation, and ATF.
Chief Dyer says together they’re getting tough on shootings and the prevention of homicides in Fresno.
Just a week or two ago, 221 guns were seized by the same law partners.
Fresno’s Police Chief says the city’s officers are working at an unprecedented level and he is committed to reducing homicides and shootings by 20% in the city.
Their work is paying off. Currently, Chief Dyer says Fresno is seeing a 50% reduction in homicides and a 35% reduction of shootings.
Fresno DA Lisa Smittcamp, also spoke, advising residents to lock up their guns in their home away from opportunistic criminals.
