8 Central Coast Beaches Reopen After Sewage Spill

FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – Eight beaches on the Central Coast have reopened after a sewage spill.

Nearly 5 million gallons of sewage spilled at the Monterey One Water Treatment Facility over the weekend.

Carmel Beach, San Carlos Beach, Lovers Points, Monterey Municipal & State Beaches, The Beach at Spanish Bay, Sunset Drive, and Stillwater Cove are now open after lab tests showed the areas are safe

The Monterey County Health Department says people are being advised to stay away from ocean water and the beaches at least through Friday January 26th because of runoff brought to the ocean by rain.
