FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – Fresno Police are rolling out their Operation Christmas presence — fighting holiday crime in the city.
Masses of holiday shoppers create a perfect target for criminals but Fresno Police, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office and the California Highway Patrol will now be watching.
Chief Jerry Dyer has kicked off the Annual Operation Christmas presence by deploying more officers to all major shopping centers in Fresno.
“People are going to be out shopping and leaving valuables in their car as they go shopping or shopping and then bringing gifts back in to… storing them in their vehicle and then going back in shopping, and when that happens they’re a prime target to be burglarized.” Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer.
Chief Dyer has a few tips:
Shop with other people.
Don’t leave items or bags in your vehicles.
Keep your purse or wallet with you.
Turn on your car alarm.
Park in a well-lit area at night.
Always be aware of your surroundings.
