FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – A rally was held in Downtown Fresno, Thursday afternoon, in opposition to federal action on health insurance.
Constituents say that the federal budget plan just approved slashes Medicaid and Medicare.
They say they want to spread awareness of just how destructive the plan will be for Valley residents.
“The actions that are taken in Washington D.C. have a ripple effect, it’s not just Medi-Cal patients, it’s business owners, it’s medical providers, health centers everything. We live in a community where were interconnected and the decisions that are made have major consequences at the local level.” – Community organizer Melissa Hurtado.
Hurtado and others gathered at the Federal Building on Tulare Street to say that the budget plan is merely tax cuts for the rich, and they hope their Valley congressmen are listening.
Earlier in the day, the United States House of Representatives passed the Building a Better America Budget Resolution for fiscal year 2018.
U.S. Congressman David G. Valadao (CA-21) stated, “The Building a Better America budget is a step in the right direction. This budget strengthens our national defense, unlocks pro-growth tax reform while balancing our federal budget over the next ten years.”
He continued, “Washington’s spending problem is out of control, surpassing $20 trillion in national debt. This budget works to put our nation back on track, reducing spending while allowing Congress to make responsible decisions on how to fund federal agencies and programs.”
