FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – Dozens of sharks ashore on Pismo Beach? Two words — fake news.
If you, too, saw that photo on Facebook about dead sharks washing up on a Pismo Beach – you have been duped by fake news.
A website called React365 posted the story with attribution and a photo.
By Thursday, September 21st it had gained close to 50,000 shares on Facebook.
The story appears to originate from a 2016 article by a TV news station out of Mobile Bay, Alabama.
Pismo City leaders took to social media to make a correction saying fake news sites exist to create havoc, and Pismo Beach is in great shape – “it’s a beautiful day to be here.”
