FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – Fresno State announced the opening of its new Transportation Institute.
The reception was held Tuesday in the Henry Madden Library on Sept. 12th, exactly one year after the Fresno Council of Governments Policy Board approved the use of nearly $3 million of Measure C New Technology Reserve funds.
Over the next five-years, the funds will help the Transportation Institute conduct research on transit systems, air pollution, energy, and technologies.
“The institute will have a strong focus on Fresno County. It is envisioned as a sustainable platform and a catalyst for the development and implementation of advanced multi-modal and transit projects within the local community.” – Fresno State President Joseph Castro.
The Institute is collaboration between the 15 cities within Fresno County, the Lyles College of Engineering, Craig School of Business and College of Social Sciences.
Students will be able to work with professors, urban planners and engineers on the planning process, grant writing and city government.
Coursework for grads and undergrads will also be developed.
