The California Department of Food and Agriculture continues to warn horse owners about the dangers of the West Nile virus.
The Department says there are eight confirmed cases of the disease in horses,
Some of those cases are in Fresno, Kern and San Joaquin Counties.
Most of the horses were not vaccinated and two horses had unknown vaccination status.
Five horses died or were euthanized and three horses are recovering.
Horse owners are being reminded to have their animals vaccinated.
By doing so, the CDFA says owners are providing the best protection against the disease.
