Violent Crime Down In Fresno: Police Chief Dyer

FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – Fresno Police reporting a reduction in violent crime in the city.

In July, Fresno Police rolled out a strategy to address the impact of violent crime in the city, by apprehending domestic violence suspects quickly – 72 hours after they’ve offended, targeting gang members and vagrants and the most wanted.

Police Chief Jerry Dyer says violent crime is now down over 6% in the last month.

“So, the good new is that over the last 28 days we’ve seen violent crime reductions in every category, homicides down 57%, rapes down 12%, robbery down 6%, and aggravated assaults down 3%.” -Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer.

Last month, Fresno PD’s Most Wanted List had 32 people on it, now 21 are in custody.

“Much of it having to do with citizens calling in the police department, reporting the whereabouts of those individuals.” – Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer.

While auto thefts are the lowest in three decades, Cheif Dyer says people are still leaving keys and belongings in vehicles, prime incentives for thieves.
