FRESNO, CA (KMJ) A 30 year old suspect, who led deputies on a near hour-long chase through town early Sunday morning, is hospitalized after being shot by officers.
The Fresno Co. Sheriff’s Department says the unidentified suspect fled from Fresno Police officers near Backer Ave and Florence Ave. around 12:45 AM Sunday.
The chase, which included FPD’s Air 1 helicopter, traveled to the area of Hwy 99 and Clovis Ave. where the suspect drove through a field.
Eventually, the suspect plowed through the gate of a farming business at Clovis Ave. and Jensen.
Officers had surrounded the suspect’s silver SUV on the ranch property when the driver slammed his vehicle into two patrol cars.
Officers opened fire, striking the suspect and the SUV. More than a dozen rounds were fired. Pictures from the scene show the SUV’s passenger side front door riddled with bullets.
The suspect is listed in stable condition at CRMC. One officer sustained a minor injury.
FCSD is handling the investigation because the shooting occurred on country property.
