FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — The Calif. Senate Environmental Quality Committee has voted to advance the proposed extension of the controversial cap-and-trade program until 2030.
The initiative aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, but opponents say it hurts small businesses, and costs taxpayers billions every year.
Governor Jerry Brown showed minimal restraint, during a committee hearing on Thursday.
Brown told lawmakers, “This isn’t about some cockamamie legacy. This isn’t for me, I’m going to be dead. It’s for you, and it’s damn real.”
The measure is expected to get a vote on the Senate floor on Monday.
