More FUSD Employees Affected in Identity Breach

(KMJ) – More Fresno Unified District employees have been targeted for identity theft.  Last week, Gilroy Police arrested three suspects for alleged identity theft.  The suspects were allegedly in possession of the personal information for more than 50 employees from Fresno Unified.

Clovis Police said on Tuesday that 34 year-old Monica Macias and 29 year-old Jose Cortez were booked in the Fresno County Jail on charges of identity theft, possession of personal information, burglary and conspiracy.

They say the suspects likely had different parts of the same list the suspects in Gilroy had – with thousands more FUSD employees’ information on it.

Captain Tom Roberts says Clovis Police discovered the new suspects when they were investigating an identity theft case.  He says during the investigation, two suspects were identified and on Monday they were brought in for questioning. Following their interview with detectives, both subjects were arrested for multiple charges. At the time of the arrest, the female suspect was found to be in possession of an electronic file that included the personal information belonging to thousands of people. It is unknown if those people’s identity had been used or not.

Fresno Unified says that in conjuction with a risk consultation firm, it will provide free theft consultation and restoration services to all district employees, retirees and their dependents.
