Report: Valley Wages Lagging Behind National Average

FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — The majority of employees in the Central Valley are earning wages below the national average.

That’s according to a new Bureau of Labor Statistics report, which shows valley metropolitan areas are noticeably behind the country’s average of $23.86 an hour.

Here in Fresno, average hourly wages are around 9 percent lower, at $21.76.

In the Visalia-Porterville area, the figure is 11 percent behind.

Only Sacramento, with the abundance of state jobs taken into account, has an hourly wage above the rest of the nation.
