Calif. Single-Payer Health Insurance Proposal Shelved

FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — An effort to implement a single-payer healthcare system in the Golden State was placed on hold Friday.

In a statement Democratic Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon called the proposal by members of his party “woefully incomplete.”

He added that the measure fails to address serious concerns, such as costs and delivery, in addition to the possibility of a radical transformation at the federal level.

It’s a significant setback for the ambitious proposal, although it can still be revived in the next legislative session.
