Auto Thefts Down in Fresno, But Suspected Thieves Wanted

FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – Fresno Police say that the number of car thefts are down in the city – but they need the public’s help to lower it further.

Chief Jerry Dyer unveiled new crime stats on Wednesday. They show that auto thefts are down more than 16% this year, than at the same point last year.  In 2016, Fresno ranked 9th in the nation for most cars stolen.

“This year I’m happy to say we’re on pace to have under 3,000 cars stolen in our city,” said Chief Dyer.  “Which has only happened one other time in the last 30 years.”

Chief Dyer says currently the city averages about 8 cars stolen per day. Over the last two weeks, that number has decreased further to just 5 cars per day.  He attributes that to a significant number of arrests by made by the department’s Career Criminal Auto Theft Team (CCATT).  However, he says the number will decrease further if they can apprehend the suspected auto thieves pictured below.  If you have any information about their whereabouts, call Crime Stoppers at 498-STOP.
