St. Helen’s School To Remain Open

FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – St. Helen’s primary school in southwest Fresno will remain open after Bishop Armando Ochoa says enough funds were raised to cover the more than $580,000 the school owed to the diocese.

St. Helen’s had previously announced in March the school would have to close at the end of the 2016-2017 school year because they were in too much debt.

Bishop Ochoa gave credit in saving the school and congratulations to those who held fundraisers and donated to the school.

The school says the debt was incurred over the course of about nine years and that they’re making changes in order to not fall into a hole again.  One way is that benefits will be paid automatically.
