FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – A paint party is taking place Wednesday May 24th to support children’s literature and a community mural.
The idea behind the Canvas and Cordials Paint Party is to create art…and money.
“It’s a new experience, they’re kinda popping up all over the place, so for a ticket price of $45, you’ll get a canvas (16–inch by 20-inch), all of the paint supplies and a take home apron, we will have instructors Mark and Wendy DeRaud, we will be kinda painting the same canvas, and then you will get to take the canvas home.” – Jamie Sanford, Library Service Specialist, Arne Nixon Center for the Study of Children’s Literature.
Mark DeRaud has served as an art professor at Fresno Pacific University and has been a professional artist for over 17 years. The night’s painting will be “Stormy Tower,” featuring the Fresno evening skyline with the iconic Tower Theatre spire.
By paying for the privilege to paint, the money generated will be used by the the Arne Nixon Center Advocates to create a community mural next spring by award-winning children’s illustrator Rafael López. Volunteers will be needed at that point to help paint the mural – adding color to a Fresno neighborhood.
“We’ll definitely keep people updated with the dates and the location where the mural is going to be.” – Jamie Sanford, Library Service Specialist.
The paint party will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, at Mia Cuppa Caffé (620 E. Olive Ave.) in Fresno.
