Western Union to Refund Victims of Wire Fraud

FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Western Union has agreed to pay $586 million to customers who used its wire transfer service, an ultimately sent money scammers.

More than $65 million of that sum has been set aside for California consumers.

In announcing the terms, Calif. AG Xavier Becerra said there’s “no excuse for Western Union to expose their customers to fraud,” adding that hardworking families were “ripped off.”

In addition to the refunds, Western Union has agreed to establish an anti-fraud program, aiming to combat the plethora of scams the use wire transfer services.
