FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Vitamin D has been noted for its role in preventing and treating bone health issues.
High-dose supplements have also been considered beneficial for heart disease prevention.
However, according to a new study in JAMA Cardiology, Vitamin D supplements appear to do virtually nothing for heart health.
Researchers examined 5,000 adults between the ages of 50 and 84.
The risk for a heart attack, stroke, or heart failure was essentially unchanged by Vitamin D levels.
The study’s authors say most of the recommendations for taking the supplements was found online, not based on science.
