FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – Teens at Clovis West High School are being shown the dangers of distracted driving during California Teen Safe Driving Week. On Wednesday, the California Highway Patrol, AT&T and Impact Teen Drivers held an assembly at the high school with a virtual reality simulator to show them first hand the dangers of texting – or using social media – behind the wheel.
Eric Johnson, of AT&T says that 7 in 10 drivers engage in some type of smart phone activity while driving. Nearly 4 in 10 tap into social media while behind the wheel. 3 in 10 surf the internet – and yes, some take selfies while in motion.
Impact Teen Drivers says that 75% of teen car crashes are not drug and alcohol-related, but instead caused by distractions, recklessness and inexperience.
