CA Assembly Approves $3.1 Billion State Parks Bond Measure

FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — The California Assembly has approved the placement of a $3.1 billion bond to fund state parks, on the 2018 ballot.

AB 18 has narrowly received the necessary two-thirds majority vote.

Democratic Assemblyman Eduardo Garcia, the measure’s author, says the goal is to improve access to parks and open spaces, especially in disadvantaged communities.

Several Republican lawmakers are opposing Garcia’s bill, advocating that park improvements be paid for using money from the general fund.

The bond would cost the state $6 billion over 3 decades.

It’s now off to the Senate.
