Council Approves Resolution Supporting Brand’s Citizens Public Safety Board

FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — In a 5-2 vote, the Fresno City Council approved a resolution Thursday, supporting Mayor Lee Brand’s proposed Citizens Public Safety Board, which will include 9 appointees, who monitor the actions of officers and issue recommendations.

Brand did not need the council’s approval.

Councilmen Steve Brandau and Gary Bredefeld were the two “no” votes.

Chief Jerry Dyer and DA Lisa Smittcamp urged the council to support the resolution.

Brand campaigned on the Citizens Public Safety Board, and has pledged to appoint a group that reflects Fresno’s social, demographic, and economic diversity.
