500 Students Competing In Fresno County History Day 2017

FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – About 500 students are taking part in the 34th annual Fresno County History Day, Saturday, March 11th at Fresno Pacific University’s main campus.

This year’s theme is “Taking a Stand in History.” Students choose a number of different ways to present their topic, from tri-folds to websites to performances.

“Truly an opportunity for students to delve into topics that interest them, research, write and really think about how those topics connect with current events.” -Lisa Birrell, Communications and Public Relations Officer, Office of the Fresno County Superintendent of Schools.

California has one of the largest state History Day competitions, taking place in 34 counties, and reaching some 44,000 students each year.

Outstanding students in each category are recognized with awards and a chance to move on to the state competition May 6-7th in Rocklin, CA, with the potential to qualify for Nationals June 11-15 at the University of Maryland.

The public is invited to view projects from 12:45 to 2 p.m. Separate award ceremonies will be held in Fresno Pacific’s Event Center from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. for 4th/5th grades and from 4 to 5 p.m. for junior/senior divisions.
