Gov. Brown Proposes Plan to Address CA’s Crumbling Infrastructure

FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Following extreme weather in the Golden State, Gov. Jerry Brown is putting forth a plan, which he says will result in immediate action, to bolster dam safety, increase flood protection, and repair aging infrastructures.

It also addresses the serve situation near the Oroville Dam spillway, which documents show the state was warned about, more than a decade ago.

When asked by a reporter during a press conference Friday why the government has been late to address infrastructure needs, Brown said there were perhaps more pressing needs at the time, and a government of this size, always has substantial activity.

Brown’s new plan calls for investing $437 million in flood control and emergency response, and seeking an expedited environmental review under presidential executive order, for 10 high-priority projects, including the reconstruction of the Oroville Dam spillway.

The proposal requires the approval of the legislature.
