LAO Issues Recommendations for Funding CA Road Repairs

FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — California roads and highways are well overdue for repairs and upgrades, amid abandonment and greater traffic.

However, according to a new report from Legislative Analyst’s Office, the Brown Administration and state lawmakers need to do more work, to determine how much money will be needed to address the problems.

The governor has proposed a transportation funding plan, which calls for increased registration fees, higher fuel taxes, as well as using cap-and-trade revenue.

Meanwhile, Republicans want to take from the general fund to avoid raising taxes.

The LAO recommends that lawmakers do additional research, to figure out the number and stability of revenue sources there will be, in addition to considering road charges.
