FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – A rally was held Wednesday in Clovis, outside of Congressman Devin Nunes’ office calling for his ouster.
The California-based “Courage Campaign” is demanding the immediate resignation of the Tulare County republican over the controversial activities of President Trump’s former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn.
Representative Nunes chairs the House Committee on Intelligence, which is conducting a review of Russian activities to influence the election. Rep. Nunes is on record saying he wants to investigate the leaks to the media that brought about this latest controversy. But, the Courage Campaign claims Rep. Nunes is refusing to investigate Flynn directly.
They say whether Rep. Nunes didn’t know that Flynn posed a major national security risk as a potential target of Russian blackmail, or sought to cover it up for political gain – he failed in his responsibilities to protect the American people and should resign. Rep. Nunes issued a statement following the protest (below) but did not respond to the demand to step down.
The group says hours ahead of Flynn’s resignation, Rep. Nunes told Bloomberg’s Steven Dennis there was no problem with Flynn, it was just the President’s enemies making trouble.
Eddie Kurtz, executive director of the California-based Courage Campaign issued the following statement:
“Whether Rep. Devin Nunes didn’t know that Michael Flynn posed a major national security risk as a potential target of Russian blackmail, or sought to cover it up for partisan political gain — it’s clear that Nunes has failed in his responsibilities to protect the American people and should resign as the chair of the House Intelligence Committee effective immediately.
“National security and the intelligence that protects the American people should never be subject to political partisanship. Nunes’ failure to take the allegations against Flynn seriously is proof positive that Nunes is either incapable or unwilling to do his job — and that is unacceptable.
“With so much at stake, we need a Congress that will hold the members of the Trump Administration accountable when they undermine and risk the security of the American people. Nunes has proven that he is not up to the task.”

“It’s always gratifying to see people expressing their opinions on political issues, whether they support me or not. Today it’s also nice to hear, in a press release, from the executive director of the Los Angeles-based group that arranged the protest at my office. His group’s motto is ‘Fighting for a more progressive California and country’—while I don’t support that agenda, I wish him well.”
