FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Under legislation proposed in the California State Senate, public school districts would be required to begin classes no earlier than 8:30.
That’s the same start time listed, in an advisory from the American Academy of Pediatrics.
More than 3 million students attend middle and high schools in the Golden State.
On average, their classes begin at 8:07 a.m., according to the CDC.
Experts say their studies confirm that insufficient sleep in teenage adolescents,poses a public health risk,and has an adverse effect on academic success.
