Prominent Local Attorney Cleared in Jail Contraband Smuggling Case

FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Attorney Tony Capozzi visited a client in the Fresno County Jail back in October, and entered with a cardboard box filled with documents.

Sheriff’s Office investigators say Capozzi temporarily left the visitation room, before departing from the jail, and left the box with the inmate, who then tried to take it back to his cell.

A correctional officer stopped him, searched the box, and discovered a hidden compartment, containing cell phones and some medications.

However, detectives say they can’t prove that Capozzi knowingly or intentionally, smuggled the contraband into the jail.

They’ve identified two other men, one of whom is in custody for an unrelated case, and are still working to determine who put the box together.
